Did you know that the city of Halstad offers a free residential lot program? It’s true! Our residential lot program makes it possible for new and existing residents to build a brand-new home in our close-knit community.

As one of the only cities in the region offering this free housing lot program, Halstad provides residents with a unique opportunity to not only begin building equity but to set down roots within our community. Those qualified for the program can choose from any of the approved lots in Halstad’s established neighborhoods or new developments.

In addition to the free residential lot, the program includes several incentives. Qualified individuals will receive free connection to Halstad’s utilities. They will also be reimbursed for a portion of the construction to meter cost for electrical, water, and sewer services. Those eligible for the free residential lot program will receive a tax reduction, which defers special assessments for two years and includes a five-year city tax abatement.
