On Saturday, December 11 community members enjoyed a day full of events during the Day of Giving-Santa Day at the Halstad Community Center.  A Day of Giving was coordinated as a fund-raising event for the Western Norman Community Fund (WNCF), which includes the cities of Halstad, Hendrum, Perley, and Shelly.  The Western Noman Community Fund, is a component fund of Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF), a public 501(c)(3) charitable foundation.  WNCF was created to promote investment, collaboration and philanthropy for the western Norman County member communities.

Morning events included a Lions Club pancake breakfast, a visit from Santa (and the Grinch) and activities such as ornament making, cookie decorating, and prizes sponsored by the Halstad Community Club.  In the afternoon, Laughing Earth Gardens from Ada provided a Make and Take Swag event.  Many participated in the hayride, caroling and a tree lighting before coming back for a spaghetti supper.  Bingo games started at 6:00 pm, and the final event of the evening was game night where participants were selected for several fun games and contests with generous prizes donated from businesses throughout the communities.

All funds raised during A Day of Giving will go to build the endowment of the Western Norman Community Fund.  The Northwest Minnesota Community Fund (NMF) is contributing a 10% match, so every dollar donated automatically increases to $1.10.  The Western Norman Community Fund thanks the businesses and vendors who provided their time and generous donations, the Halstad Lions Club, Halstad Community Club, Halstad Fire Department, Laughing Earth Gardens, Marsh River 4H Club, and to the attendees who came out to support and enjoy A DAY OF GIVING.

Landmark, located in Halstad, Minnesota was formerly the Norman County West High School.  The mission of Landmark is to promote community and advance the self-sufficiency of residents of all ages in a state-of-the-art Community Education, Fitness and Recreation Center.
